Hi!

We're Larianne & Roody. Welcome to our blog :) We are two young Christian parents who have a YouTube channel and love to share our lives with the world. Enjoy!

Jerkyz Downtown Stamford | Wednesday Lunch

Jerkyz Downtown Stamford | Wednesday Lunch

Larique and I like to go out for brunch/lunch on the days that she is off from work. It’s almost a weekly thing. So the food blog has been revived! We try to go somewhere new with an open mind. Jerkyz on Summer Street in Stamford was at the top of the list because she had only been there once before and didn’t get a chance to fully explore the menu. But this time, I went with her and we sure did explore!

First things first—the drinks. I ordered the Sorrel (because, duh) and Larique ordered the Pink Panther. The Sorrel didn’t hit the way I needed it to. Like, the actual sorrel part. There was a TON of rum in it, and that was dizzying. But I needed more from the Sorrel. The Pink Panther was delicious.

Joab Taylor, the owner, noticed me taking photos and he came over and asked what we ordered. He was disappointed that we didn’t order more food, so guess what he did. He brought us more food. Thank you so much, Joab!!

The Cod Fish Fritters… I could literally eat those all day. The Yucca Fries were out of this world. Larique and I couldn’t believe they were a thing. I brought some home for Roody and he loved them, too. Why did we never think of turning bammy into fries before??

Larique ordered the Jerk Beef Sliders, of course, because she loves burgers. I didn't take a bite because of all of the cheese, but Larique said they were yummy!

Now let’s get into these Jerk Chicken Wings… Not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought about these wings. I kid you not. I dream of eating them again. I have been back to the restaurant with Roody just to get the wings. I ordered more food, but the wings were really all I wanted.

Gworl. You need these Jerk Wings in your life. The wings by themselves are ok. The wings plus the sauce?? HEAVENLY.

I took a bite of this Jerk Salmon Burger before noticing the cheese. It’s ok, I didn’t die. And I actually took a second bite because it was that good. #WorthIt

Roody and I looooove a good salmon burger. I brought it home to him and he devoured it. That was definitely the best salmon burger we had ever had (even better than the one we had at Ten20).

Larique and I were very curious as to why we didn’t see any Curried Goat on the menu, and Joab gave us a perfectly good explanation:

I try to stay within the theme of ‘Jerkyz.’ I’m not trying to be a traditional Jamaican restaurant that does everything. I want to be very focused on jerk. So we have weekend specials—on Fridays we have Oxtail Rasta Pasta and Jerk Lamb Chops.
— Joab Taylor, Jerkyz owner

Makes sense to me! Now here are our ratings:

LarJ Grubs’ Rating

Wait Time | 10
We walked in on a Wednesday afternoon, sat down, ordered, then ate. The same thing happened when Roody and I went on a Thursday evening. The wait time wasn’t an issue either time.

Service | 10
Our server, Eddie, was very attentive. He warned me about the alcohol level in the sorrel (because I told him I didn’t want anything strong), but I misunderstood him and ignored his advice. Oops! Thanks anyway, Eddie.

Vibe | 9.5
I had a really good time dancing and being silly with the loud music, but it was loud music and I never like to yell when I’m speaking in a restaurant while eating food. Also, the restaurant was nice and bright in the day time, and had a cool lounge/club vibe in the evening.

Grub | 9.5
Although the food was out of this world, the sorrel drink I had was a bit of a disappointment. I don’t go to restaurants for drinks, though, so that wasn’t a huge deal to me.

Price | 10
Very affordable and totally worth it.

Overall | 48.5/50
