Hotel Review: The Plaza Hotel New York

Hotel Review: The Plaza Hotel New York

Roody & I had the pleasure of staying one night at The Plaza hotel for our 10th wedding anniversary last summer. I selected this hotel because it was very close to Central Park, and I also wanted a beautiful getting ready location for our photographer (Kesha Lambert) and cinematographer (Kevin Guzewich) to have as a backdrop.

So after professing our undying love for each other and being captured on camera within an inch of our lives, we went back upstairs and grabbed our own camera to take pictures in the hallway.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect at this hotel. I truly did not know how iconic it was until AFTER I left. I just knew I really liked how the hotel looked. It looks like if the walls spoke, they would have 1 million amazing stories to tell.

One word: different

“The hotel rooms were strikingly different—a lot different than other hotel rooms that I’ve been to. Sliding doors and hidden compartments allowed our room to be minimalistic and keep its Victorian look at the same time.”
-Roody

We stayed in the Edwardian 1 Bedroom King Suite. The cost per night is $1485 and you have to pay a $1000 deposit for incidentals upon arrival. That part caught me off guard haha. I’m so used to the little $50-$200 that every other hotel asks for.

I loved our bedroom and bathroom so much that I forgot to capture the living room area. But here is a photo that Kesha captured while we were getting ready. The suite is far more spacious than your typical NY hotel. I also really appreciated the fact that there was a microwave and fridge available for use and multiple storage spaces for us to put our belongings.

The next morning, Roody and I called to make a reservation for breakfast. We unfortunately called too late, so we had to go for their Afternoon Tea instead. Honesty, no regrets. We still talk about this Tea to this day.

We opted for the New Yorker Tea, which was $95/person. Chile, I had to keep my composure as the waiter told me the price. Like I said, I didn’t do my research beforehand and I had no idea what I was walking into. But listen, that’s what cryptocurrency is for. Remember—the hotel still had my $1000 incidentals deposit that I wasn’t prepared for, and I’m not made of money. But I really wanted to experience this. So I sold some of my Bitcoin to get some quick cash! #notashamed

In total, our meal came up to $219.94 (the tea cost extra), and we added a $40 tip. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! Roody and I savored every bite. I couldn’t believe that “little” tray of food had the ability to fill us the way it did, but it did!

Before checking out, Roody & I took full advantage of the robes that were in the bathroom. We set up the camera on a tripod and did a mini photo shoot because we’re extra.

What would I rate our stay at The Plaza hotel in NYC?

5/5 stars. Without a doubt.

I’m actually trying to figure out when I can afford to stay there again. Two nights this time because one just isn’t enough! I must warn you, though—once you stay at The Plaza, all hotels will pale in comparison. So just keep that in mind haha.
